So Im watching my beloved and tragic Browns in the this years preseason game against the LA Rams. Its 1st Quarter, Rams with the ball. 3rd down and 6. Browns Defensive End Isaiah McGuire sniffs out the play and tackles the running back in the backfield. He does a little shimmy in the backfield and then does the, fairly routine at this point, “Nose Wipe” gesture. Suddenly, what should have been 4th and long was now an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty and an automatic 1st down.
So, Im like “Whoa. Wait. What??” I mean, its no big deal because its preseason but now I had to go track down this years new rules for the 25 NFL season.
Some of those new rules include:
- No Nose Wipe
- No Throat Slash
- No simulated guns or violence gestures.
To name a few. Now to be fair, I get the gun and gang gestures. But the nose wipe? Is the NFL stealing all of the entertainment part out of the game? Yall tell me.
